Canada FAQ

What is the difference between a resident visa and a permanent resident visa?

Both of these visas allow you the same privilege of living and working in a country, but they provide you with different travel conditions.Your resident visa will allow you to travel in and out for a specified period of time only – usually 24 months.

Permanent residency refers to a person’s visa status: the person is allowed to reside indefinitely within a country of which he or she is not a citizen.

Can people of any nationality apply for the Canadian Permanent Residency Visa?Yes, there are no restrictions on the nationality of applicants.

Do I qualify for a Canada Immigration Visa under the Skilled Worker category? With our online assessment, we will be able to evaluate whether you can apply for a skilled worker visa and/or which visa options might apply for you.

Can I still qualify as a Skilled Worker if I do not have work experience in one of the 24 qualifying occupations? There is a possibility that you may qualify with arranged employment, or through a provincial nominee program. Our immigration consultants will give you all your options.

Who can I include in my application for a Canada Immigration Visa? You can include all of your family members, even those who might not decide to immigrate with you. This will give them the chance in the future.

What is the National Occupational Classification? The Canadian National Occupational Classification is the authoritative resource for employment information in the country. This list is used to determine which occupations are qualified under the federal Skilled Worker visa.

Will I have to take a medical exam?Yes, all immigration applicants must take a medical examination. This is in order to protect the health of the Canadian people and to prevent a burden on the Canadian medical system from an existing illness.

How long are medical examinations valid for?Medical examinations are valid for 1 year from the date of the examination.

Will my application be rejected if I have a certain disease or disorder?Every case is judged individually and your full medical history will be considered. But if your disease or disorder will put the Canadian people at risk or cause an excessive burden on healthcare or social services, then it is likely that you will not be able to receive a visa.

What is a Police Clearance Certificate? And how do I obtain a Police Clearance Certificate? This is required from all applicants 18 years or older, from each country that the applicant has lived in for more than 6 months. Each country has different procedures in which to obtain a police clearance certificate.

Will I be interviewed by a Citizenship and Immigration Canada Officer? This is a possibility, but not everyone is interviewed. The interviews are used to assess the truthfulness of information, including verification of the authenticity of documents.

Must I take an English or French test in order to be eligible for the Canadian Skilled Worker category?Yes, your level of English and/or French will gain you points for your visa application. It is a requirement to take a standardized language test in either French or English.Being able to communicate and work in one or both of Canada’s official languages is very important. Knowing English, French or both helps you in the Canadian job market. To do this, you must take a language test from an agency designated by Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) before starting the immigration process. You will be awarded up to 24 points for your basic, moderate or high proficiency level in English and French. You will be given points based on your ability to:

Listening
Speaking
Reading
Writing

What is the IELTS test?IELTS is the International English Language Testing System, which tests English proficiency across the globe. This test is designed to assess the language ability of candidates who want to study or work where English is the language of communication. There are two types of IELTS tests available: Academic or General Training. These are chosen depending on your purpose — whether you want to study, work or immigrate. Both IELTS tests are made up of four parts: listening, reading, writing and speaking. The IELTS test helps the immigration authorities and institutes in Canada to evaluate one’s English level by giving the candidate a point grade that is universally understood representing his English level.

What is the TEF test?TEF (Test d’Evaluation de Françs) is an exam conducted by the CCIP (Chamber of Commerce and Industries of Paris) which tests the candidate’s proficiency in the French language. This test is also for individuals who are required to prove their level in French in order to work. It is obligatory for every person who wishes to go to Canada either to work or study. The TEF test is made up of four parts: listening, reading, writing and speaking. The TEF test helps the immigration authorities and institutes in Canada to evaluate one’s French level by giving the candidate a universally understood point grade representing his French level.
